Temple 43: Meisekiji

Meisekiji can be named, “Brilliant Stone Temple” or “Daybreak Stone Temple”. There is a legend of a goddess who carried large rocks while praying. When the sun rose and night disappeared she did too. This temple was founded in the 6th century and has been the starting point for ohenro who travel over from Kyushu. Very tranquil and calm, this temple is the last one you will see before you begin the next 60 kilometer trek to Temple 44: Taijouji.
