Yasakaji is the “Temple of the Eight Slopes”. Long ago there were eight paths one could take to reach this temple. Luckily for us on the day of our visit, we just had the one path from the bus parking lot to the temple grounds. It was a lovely walk and we had a very good taste of rural life in Japan.
This temple is significant for its connection to Mt. Kumano in Wakayama Prefecture as the form of Buddhism (Daigo-ha sect) originates there. There are old relics and temples to be found here, as well as a funky modern interactive piece of walking through heaven and hell. Don’t worry, the passages are short, but take a look when you come here.
