On the Shikoku Pilgrimage you will be visiting four temples named, “Kokubunji”. These are state temples and there is one for each of the four prefectures of Shikoku. When I visited this temple there was a good deal of restoration going on at the time. The buildings are quite old, but lovely. The bell tower in particular. Take some time beneath the eaves of the roofs to see the intricate construction.
The deity of this Kokubunji is Yakushi Nyorai, the buddha of medicine and healing.
