Temple 09: Hourinji

Walking about 4 kilometres from Kumadaniji, you will arrive at Hourinji (Temple of the Wheel of Dharma). In the main temple there is the only image of the reclining Buddha. I’m sorry there is no photo of it here as photographing the deity within the temple is almost impossible (there are a few exceptions and you have to be a little lucky to do so).

This particular temple is significant for the healing of feet and lower back and lower abdomen area.

This is such a charming and lovely “typical” temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Unassuming, lacking great decoration and gold leaf, its purpose is simple. To celebrate the Buddha, to provide healing and comfort to those who come, and to one link of the great chain that encircles Shikoku.
