Temple 49: Joudoji

This is a very nice little temple and a must visit to learn about a man by the name of Kuuya. Kuuya Shounin lived in the 10th century and is connected to this temple. He is known for creating a dancing sutra, where one dances and chants at the same time. He is also reported to have been deeply loved by the community and elevated as a saint for those who suffer and are poor. When he left the temple he left behind a carved image of himself. I like this photo because we see a nice mix of people dressed as pilgrims and others just as they normal do. For myself, I opted for the latter, and not once did anyone bat an eye. I like that.

We saw a group of students being taught about the pilgrimage and taking the day to visit temples. That was nice to see. Not all our youth are whippersnappers and troublemakers.
