Temple 64: Maegamiji

This temple is located at the bottom of Mount Ishizuchi, the highest mountain in western Japan. An absolutely pristine area, the forest is lush and the natural surroundings are a wonderful retreat.

If you can stick a one yen coin to the wall you will receive good luck, so I am told!

The name “Maegamiji” means, “God of the Front” temple. This temple may act as a gate to the mountain, a protector to the god of the mountain, and a place to focus one’s mind and heart before beginning the climb.
